"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV News.
Today we're going to be talking a little bit about It Takes Two.
This is a game that just continues to keep giving."
"Ever since it launched back in 2021 it has sold a lot of copies and it's done so at a very consistent rate and that's why we're going to be talking about the game again because despite I think topping about 16 million copies earlier this year, it's now at 20 million.
So despite the fact that it is 3 years old, over 3 years old, pushing, you know, getting close to its 4th birthday actually, the game is still shifting a good sort of 4 or 5 million copies a year."
"So very impressive information and let's dive in and see exactly what's happened.
So yes, It Takes Two has sold over 20 million copies, this means it has sold 4 million copies since March, which is extremely impressive for a 3 year old title.
The multi-award winning adventure It Takes Two charmed the gaming world when it premiered just over 3 years ago, delivering co-op in a thoroughly innovative way."
"Here we had to help the married couple Cody and May, who had begun to drift apart, find their way back to love again, something their daughter really wished for.
The adventure has been insanely popular from the get-go, reaching milestone after milestone since its launch, despite the fact that it has no single player and thus requires someone to play with."
"Generously however, you can share your game with a friend online, which has no doubt contributed to its success.
Now however, it has achieved something that very few games can boast, it has passed 20 million sold copies, as the game's Swedish developer Hazelight announced on Instagram where they also took the opportunity to thank all the fans for the incredible support."
"Later this year we will see what Hazelight will do next, but it is rumoured to be a sequel to It Takes Two.
And this is the post obviously from Hazelight, where they give you this little nice graphic and hit you with the It Takes Two has sold 20 million, over 20 million, are you the best fans in the world, how you've embraced our games is blowing our minds, we're so grateful to every one of the millions upon millions who've enjoyed their time with Cody and Nate."
"Now the interesting thing about It Takes Two is that this information is about 20 million sold copies, now does that account for Game Pass and EA Play copies as well, do they count as sold copies in this regard or not, because if not that means there's even more players that you can add to this list as well."
"And likewise, It Takes Two requires two to tango, as you say, so if there's 20 million sold copies of the game out there, there is at least 40 million players, which is a massive number, an absolutely huge number, obviously you can't say that if they required people to buy their own copies that It Takes Two would reach 40 million sold copies, it'd probably be less, because obviously people would have to buy more copies to be able to play together."
"But one thing's for certain is that this strategy seemingly has worked very well for Hazelight and EA, and hopefully it means that they'll do something similar, a tight adventure without any of the additional faff that comes with a lot of titles these days, microtransactions and all that stuff, and just allows you to enjoy a good co-op experience with somebody that you like, and again, Hazelight have said that they're going to tell us about what they're doing next by the end of 2024, so probably at the Game Awards, because Joseph Farris and Geoff Keighley are very buddy-buddy. But yeah, no doubt it'll be a sequel to It Takes Two, because they want to make sure they capture the lightning in the bottle that is this franchise right now. But yeah, a lot of interesting things to go from this, you know, 4 million copies since March for a game that's three years old is remarkable, just as a point of comparison, Resident Evil 4 I believe sold about 4 million copies this year as well, which the crazy thing about Resident Evil 4 is that, well, it came out in 2023, so this game is two years older than Resident Evil 4 and it's selling at a similar rate. But yeah, we don't know the exact number of players, we probably won't, we can estimate, and I wouldn't be personally surprised if it's at the 50 million mark or near the 50 million mark if there's 20 million sold copies out there, but yeah, basically It Takes Two is doing really well, which not that I'm surprised, it's one of the best games we've had as of late, game of the year winner I believe as well, so, you know, very impressive all together for Hazelight and the folks over there.
