"No, not anymore. Goat Simulator Remastered.
Now, tell me about it. Why is now the time that you wanted to remaster this game?
So, it's been 10 years since we first launched it on April 1st, 2014.
A lot of players still enjoy playing it."
"We feel like there's probably 10 years more to go.
So, yeah, we did a remaster.
We put everything that people loved with the first one into one package, like all the DLC content, everything into a nice looking, sort of new, sort of old game."
"You mentioned to me earlier that a lot of the work that you've done on this remake, remaster, sorry, is fixing the spaghetti code.
Yeah.
How close were you to just straight remaking the game?
How close was this between going full remake instead of just being a remaster?
Well, the game is deceptively large, given with all the DLCs and everything."
"The content load is huge.
But we did manage to write a special program to port automatically from Unreal 3 to 4.
But, yeah, there was a lot of technical debt that needed to be fixed for this one, for sure."
"Tell me about some of the new features that you've introduced, ways that, well, things that were, let's say, present in the original game but maybe present in such a way that they were a bit of a nuisance, things that you've addressed this time around."
"Yeah, so the spaghetti code, as mentioned, had some limitations.
On PC, you would have to restart the entire game if you wanted to switch to another goat or another animal or another gear.
So now we made a nifty little menu that lets you swap in and out of everything."
"I think the combinations are probably more than atoms in the universe.
So it's not super well tested if all the combinations break the game or not.
But, yeah, that's a really nice feature.
We've put, as I said, all the DLCs into this one."
"Nice-looking overview map that lets you select everything.
And the mobile DLC, I guess you could say, that's also present.
Exactly. So we put one of the mobile DLCs into the packet with everything else that has previously then not been available for PC and consoles."
"I reckon that you must have some really crazy stories about when this game was being developed.
What were some of the most fun things that you put into the game and things that you're really proud of that managed to see the light of day?
Oh, that's a good question."
"Making this game, you wouldn't know what we were doing each day you came into work.
So we would just have a meeting. People would pitch stupid ideas.
Like, I want to make a prank thing where you light a piece of poop on fire and then the guy's house burns down."
"If you could do it, you could do it.
You could have a specially divisive thing that kind of split the studio where you collect cats, put them into a sausage machine, and you can output a cat sausage."
"Fun for some, gross for others.
And tell me then...
Sorry, I had it right in the tip of my tongue and then the cat sausage completely distracted me.
Oh, it's gone now. It was a good question as well."
"No, there we go. The name.
Goat Simulator. We went to Goat Simulator 3.
Now we're going back to Goat Simulator Remastered.
Did you ever come up with..."
"Were there any sort of weird, kooky name ideas that you were sort of floating around before you just settled with Remastered?
Yeah, there was a lot of them.
This may be super specific, but if anyone has played Final Fantasy X, there is a line in that game where the main character's father has a football moveset called Jecht 1 and Jecht 3, but no Jecht 2."
"So people keep asking, when are we going to see Jecht 2?
So we thought it was a pretty good idea.
People asking.
Exactly, that's exactly what you want."
"So Goat Simulator Remastered has just been announced.
It's all very fresh. We'll talk about release in a moment, but for the time being, I guess this is kind of an unusual question considering Goat Simulator is a very popular game that people are very familiar with."
"But what's one part of the Remastered version that you're really excited for people to experience for themselves?
I think it's the on-the-fly mixing and matching of stuff.
It can break the game in ways that were impossible before."
"That is a challenge for the players out there to find ways to do it.
Exactly.
As a final question then, release date, platforms, what's the idea there?
Release date, we only have 2024 for now, but there's not much 2024 left, so soon."
"Release platforms, Steam, Epic, Windows Store, Xbox Series, SNX and PlayStation 5.
The original Goat Simulator, did that launch on 360 and PlayStation 3 as well?
No, it was at the beginning of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
I'm just thinking, there's certain games that have managed to transcend generations of consoles, like Just Dance still comes out on Nintendo Wii."
"I was just wondering whether you were ever thinking of going back with Goat Simulator Remastered and bring it back to some of these older consoles.
Current gen, coming out this year, 2024, we've only got four months left, so it's here sooner rather than later."
"There's ways that you can play this game that you could never do in the original game, ways that you can break this game in ways that you could never do in the original game, so definitely be sure to check it out.
